Water Damage
Discovering a leak or flood in your home is never ideal, but taking quick action can help prevent further damage to your home. Water damage prevention is about more than just water removal; it’s about keeping leaks and floods from happening in the first place. Once you discover a possible source of water damage in your home, fixing it and keeping things secure is vital to maintaining a healthy home.

Water Removal

When you discover a leak or flood, the first step is to remove the water. The longer water sits in your home, the more time it has to cause damage. Water can compromise the structural integrity of your home, leading to weak foundations that could crack. It can also get into electrical components, making appliances unsafe to use. Water is also the number-one cause of mold growth in any home. Because most water damage is caused by water sitting over time, removing the water right away can help prevent those damages and more.

Repairs

After the water has been removed from the area, repairs should begin immediately to fix any damage. Despite floods having a more obvious area of damage, leaks can actually cause the worst damages of the two. Because they aren’t as visually noticeable, and often happen behind walls, water from leaks can sit longer and create more damage. Getting leaks patched and fixed up as soon as they are discovered prevents the water from building up. It’s always a good idea to have your home inspected after a leak or flood, regardless of how long the water was sitting there. Because some water damage isn’t visibly noticeable, you could need repairs that you aren’t aware of. Getting your home tested for mold, your wiring inspected, and your foundation checked out can all help prevent further water damage down the line.

Prevention

Once the water has been removed and the immediate damages repaired, it’s always a good idea to take extra steps to help prevent further leaks or floods. A home inspector can identify the source of a flood or leak and offer options on how to fix or alter your home to prevent another flood or leak. This could include reinforcing your house’s pipes to prevent cracks or bursts. You may also need to install a sub-pump in your basement or add additional sealant to windows and edges to keep water out. Most home restoration companies offer these services, and adding preventative measures to your home before a flood or leak is always a good idea. When your home has a leak or a flood, there’s a lot that needs to be done to prevent water damage from affecting your home. Pro Steamer Cleaning and Restoration is here to help. Our certified technicians are trained in water removal, repair, and mold remediation. Call us today at (575) 623-0993 to discuss your home repair needs. We’ll inspect your home and provide you with a detailed damage assessment and time and money estimate.
